In the latest episode of the "WeissBunt" podcast by Prof. Dr Jalid Sehouli, Director of Gynaecology at Charité Berlin, we take a deep dive into the world of green tea. The guest of this episode is Tanja Hohenester, founder of Tigogreen and visionary in the field of natural remedies. Her company is known for the green tea complex tigovit. The conversation reveals her exciting journey from tourism industry to health entrepreneur and the transformative power of green tea.
An inspiring entrepreneur with an extraordinary vision
Tanja Hohenester talks about her unusual start to her career:
"I started my career in tourism because I wanted to see the world"she remembers.
After her apprenticeship, she was drawn to travelling and worked in the tourism industry for several years. Deep down, she wanted to do more: "For me, the idea of working from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day was never enough. I always wanted something more meaningful."
The beginning of tigovit
The turning point in her career came when her brother decided to help his girlfriend.
"My brother discovered that green tea and especially the active ingredient epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) could be good for his girlfriend"
Tanja explains. This discovery led to the idea of developing green tea capsules. "I took over the project from my brother and founded tigovit to pass on the great properties of green tea."
The fascination for green tea
Prof Sehouli is interested in what fascinates Tanja so much about green tea.
"I was particularly fascinated by green tea, and I said to myself: 'Either you continue to wander around on islands or you realise your own vision'"
, she reports passionately. The scientific studies and the impressive story of Professor Hunstein, who took green tea in a self-experiment, strengthened her resolve.
Quality and active ingredient of green tea
The quality of the green tea is essential for Tanja. "Of course, it is important that it is high-quality green tea in order to benefit from its beneficial properties," she emphasises. She explains that one capsule tigovit contains the same amount of EGCG as five cups of green tea.
"To really consume the green tea with its bitter taste in the necessary quantities, you would have to drink two litres a day. Tigovit makes it easier and more pleasant."
Origin and processing of the tea
Tanja attaches great importance to the origin of her tea.
"High-quality green tea should be organic and come from areas that are exposed to little environmental pollution"she explains. The green tea plant absorbs the properties of the soil, which makes the choice of growing areas crucial. "I spent a lot of time in China to find the best tea growing areas. It was important to me to ensure the highest standards so that our customers get the best quality."
Building a successful company
The structure of Tigogreen was a slow and continuous process. "Believing in your own product is crucial. I knew that I had a quality product that was so hard to find on the market"Tanja explains. With the support of her family and a strong network of doctors and health experts, she was able to tigovit successfully. "My parents supported me and I received a start-up grant, which helped me through the first difficult phase. I started small and Grown step by step."
Credibility and market success
Tanja emphasises the importance of quality and transparency.
"I have every harvest tested and only take the best to use for tigovit to process"she explains.
This has helped her to consolidate the credibility of her brand and build trust with her customers. She was able to underpin the credibility of her products with studies and a collaboration with the Charité gynaecological clinic in Berlin.
Conclusion and vision
To conclude the conversation, Prof Sehouli and Tanja discuss the future of the healthcare industry and the role of natural remedies.
"Among other things, it means leading your employees in a healthy way, with mental health. It's also about developing products with a special love and motivation, in the service of people," Tanja passionately describes her vision.
Their mission is to tigovit to make and maintain a positive contribution to people's well-being.
