In the portrait on frauchefin.de, tigovit founder Tanja Hohenester talks about her beginnings as an entrepreneur, how every female founder can be successful and how she discovered the power of green tea for herself. Frauchefin.de is a business blog aimed at self-employed women and entrepreneurs. The topics revolve around time management, organisation, productivity, start-up and self-employment. Here is an excerpt:
Dear Tanja, how did you come to start your own business? What was decisive for your decision?
Having had an odyssey with doctors since childhood because of my extreme neurodermatitis and early on seeking new ways for my health in the form of alternative medicine, it was clear to me with the discovery of green tea that I absolutely wanted to bring this important part of Asian culture to the West. I got my neurodermatitis under control with Ayurveda and a colon cleanse. My myoma, which was discovered incidentally a few years ago, grew and was to be surgically removed. And here, too, it was clear to me that there must be a natural treatment.
I found a pilot study with women who suffered from fibroids and were given green tea or its extract EGCG to take. All the women improved their well-being, the intensity of their bleeding decreased and the fibroids stopped growing. That was a signal for me to try green tea. I was surprised myself by the result: my fibroid shrank and I didn't have to take any medication for it or go under the scalpel. A wow experience that gave the starting signal for my passion for green tea. After that, I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to benefit from green tea - and after intensive preliminary work, I developed the tigovit green tea capsules.
What makes you and your business special?
When it comes to the product, it is indeed the highest possible quality that the market offers. It is not for nothing that tigovit was chosen by the Charité Women's Hospital to participate in a myoma study. I work closely with doctors and think that the scientific community would not have been interested in tigovit if it did not have this high quality.
For myself, it is the power and passion for the product combined with a clear focus on sustainability. Of course I want to make my company even more successful, but not at the expense of quality. Cheaper ingredients and poorer processing would lower the price, but then I would no longer stand behind the product. We only have one health and we have to think carefully about what we eat. What is the use of food or items that have toxins in them and we are slowly poisoning ourselves?
I know that the local growers have not used pesticides for decades because they themselves are sustainable and focused on organic quality. And only such sustainable substances and materials are used for tigovit green tea capsules.
